What happens to your QR codes when you stop paying?
The answer depends on the provider and the type of link in your code. Ending a trial, cancelling renewal and deleting an account can have different results. Here is what the providers publish, and what to check before changing your plan.
First separate the QR image from the service behind it
A QR image does not change when a subscription ends. What can change is the response from the link it contains. A direct URL still needs a reachable website; a managed redirect also depends on the service forwarding it.
A familiar domain is not proof that there is no redirect: a company can use its own domain for a managed short link. Check the saved code in the creating account, or inspect its encoded address and redirects. Website analytics may record visits from a directly encoded campaign URL even when a QR platform has no scan report.

These are summaries of published policies, not cancellation tests in provider accounts. Account-specific terms and future policy changes may differ. Ask the provider which exact date and codes a change will affect.
Check these details before you cancel
- Which action are you taking? Turning off renewal may leave access until the paid period ends. Deleting an account is different. Confirm the effective date.
- Which codes are affected? Check each code used on packaging, signs or other materials that cannot easily be replaced.
- Does a scan limit apply? Distinguish a forwarding cutoff from a reporting or billing limit.
- Can you still edit the destination? A working redirect does not necessarily include dashboard access.
- Who controls the encoded domain and path? A custom domain alone does not prove you can migrate the redirect. You need control of the exact addresses and a replacement service that can serve them.
If the printed code already stopped working
Open the intended destination directly. If it fails, restore the website, file or permissions first. If it works, check the encoded address and the account that owns any redirect.
Ask the original provider whether it can restore that same address. Paying for a new account elsewhere does not change a URL already printed on paper. If you control the encoded address, a redirect on your own website may solve the problem. Otherwise, cover the old code completely with a new label or replace the print.

How to edit a QR code after printing
You cannot change the data printed in a QR pattern. You may still be able to change what visitors reach: update a saved redirect, change the page at the encoded address, or redirect a URL you control. Start by finding out who manages that address.
