How to check a printed QR code
- Upload the image or paste the address decoded by your phone. For an important print run, also scan the actual printed sample.
- Read the current HTTP result and the number of redirects followed. A failed request means the tool could not confirm the destination.
- Open the destination yourself on a separate device if you trust the link. Some sites block automated requests even when they work in a browser.
- Check the provider account and current plan terms for limits this public tool cannot see.
Do not enter password-reset links, sign-in tokens or private document URLs. Images are decoded in your browser; a URL you ask to check is sent to our server and requested from its host.
What the result can and cannot tell you
A successful HTTP response tells you that the address responded during this check. It does not prove that the page is safe, that its content is correct, or that it will remain available. A timeout or network error is not proof that a subscription expired.
The tool follows up to five redirects. It stops on a loop, unsupported target or restricted network address. Provider details describe general published policy for a recognized host; they do not reveal the owner’s plan, payment status, remaining scans or a specific expiration date.
Static patterns and dynamic destinations
A static code stores its content directly. An offline payload, such as text or a contact card, needs no web redirect. A static code containing a website still depends on that website being available.
A dynamic code generally stores a managed redirect URL. The owner can change its saved destination while keeping the printed pattern. An unfamiliar URL is not enough evidence to call a code dynamic: ordinary websites also redirect. See static versus dynamic QR codes for how to choose before printing.
If a code has already stopped working
First check the exact address embedded in the image, the destination website and the provider account. If only the tool fails, try a trusted browser before replacing the artwork. If the provider has deactivated the link, ask about restoration before ordering a reprint.
QRtracer cannot take over another provider’s domain. A replacement QRtracer code normally means a different image. Review what happens to QR codes after cancellation, which links to provider documentation, before choosing between reactivation and replacement.
QR link checking questions
Can this tool tell me the exact expiration date?
No. It checks the current URL response and provides general provider information. It cannot access the owner’s subscription, remaining scan allowance or future account changes.
Does HTTP 200 mean my QR code is safe?
No. It means the server returned a successful HTTP response. The response could still be an error message inside a page, an unrelated destination or unsafe content. Check the address and page before acting on it.
Does a network error mean the printed QR code has expired?
No. Network failure, an automated-request block, a timeout and a deleted destination can produce similar symptoms. Confirm the URL in a trusted browser and inspect the provider account.
What happens to QRtracer codes after cancellation?
Under the current plan policy, existing dynamic redirects and scan recording continue after cancellation, and destinations remain editable. Keep the destination online. See pricing for new-code creation, Analytics and QR Studio access.
