Create a QR Code for Your PDF

Upload the PDF to your website or a file-sharing service first. QRtracer stores the link, not the document. A file on your computer, an editor address or a private sharing link will not give readers access.

For a public menu or brochure, test the link in a private browser window while signed out. Open it on a phone as well. The host may show a preview, download prompt or sign-in screen; generating a QR code does not change those settings.

In Google Drive, open Share, set General access to Anyone with the link and choose Viewer for a public document. Copy the link. Work or school accounts may restrict external access; check the Google Drive sharing instructions if that option is unavailable.

In Dropbox, copy a view-only sharing link rather than inviting people to join a folder. Dropbox supports viewing shared files without an account. Check any password or expiry settings on the link. Keep confidential documents restricted; a public QR code is not an access control.

Paste the sharing link above, generate the code and choose Save & track scans. Finish saving it in your account, then download that saved code for your flyer, label or counter sign. This is the code whose destination you can change later.

Choose Download without tracking for a free direct-link PNG without an account. That image contains the original URL; it cannot later become a QRtracer-tracked code without changing the printed pattern.

If the new file has a new address, edit the saved code’s destination in your QRtracer dashboard. Open the new sharing link while signed out, save it, then scan an existing printed copy. Keep the old file available until you have checked the change.

If your host replaces the file at the same address, the QR destination need not change, even for a direct-link code. Google Drive offers Manage versions → Upload new version for PDFs. Check the existing sharing link afterwards rather than assuming a separately uploaded file uses the same address.

Try the PDF over mobile data before printing. Check small text, page rotation and loading time; compress large images when necessary. A short mobile-friendly webpage can be easier to read than a wide brochure. Put a useful label beside the code, such as “View the menu”.

Use separate saved codes for a brochure rack and a mailed flyer to compare recorded scans. A scan does not prove the PDF loaded, was downloaded or was read. QRtracer does not measure reading inside the file. Access to scan reports depends on your plan.
