Keep customer and product data in the registration form

QRtracer encodes a destination URL. It does not provide a warranty database, verify purchases, store serial numbers, or process customer registrations. Link to a secure product registration form on your website or service platform. Ask for the serial number, purchase details, and customer information there, with the privacy notice and validation your process requires. Do not place a customer's name, email, receipt data, or product serial number directly in a reusable QR code printed on packaging.

Create and test the product registration code

  1. Publish the customer-facing registration form and copy its public URL.
  2. Create the code and choose tracking when you want to update the destination later.
  3. Name the code after the product family and placement, not an individual customer.
  4. Print a short instruction explaining what information the customer will need.
  5. Test the full form on a phone using a sample serial number before production.

A manufacturer can use one code for each product family and let the hosted form request the exact model and serial number. This avoids exposing unique customer or product data in the printed QR pattern.

Update the link when products or forms change

A saved dynamic code can move from an old form to a new product support page without changing the artwork on packaging already in warehouses. Keep the replacement destination relevant to the product shown beside the code. If registration closes, explain the status and provide a support route instead of silently sending customers to an unrelated homepage. A static code contains the form URL directly and requires new print when that URL changes. Test redirects through the complete packaging lifecycle, including older stock.

Compare QR scans with completed registrations

QRtracer can compare scan activity by product family, package panel, or manual. A scan does not show that a serial number was valid, a customer submitted the form, or coverage was approved. Use the warranty system as the source of truth for those outcomes. Free includes up to 3 dynamic codes and 14 days of Analytics and QR Studio access. Paid plans add ongoing access, SVG export for scalable packaging artwork, and CSV export. The hosted form controls customer data, consent, retention, and security.

Frequently asked questions

Can the QR code contain each product's serial number?
QRtracer's public generator links to a URL. Ask the customer to enter the serial number in your hosted form, and avoid putting customer or warranty data in a reusable printed code.
Can I change the registration form after packaging is printed?
Yes, with a saved dynamic code. Update its destination to the new secure form or support page, then test it against old and current packaging.
Does a scan confirm a warranty registration?
No. It confirms that the QR destination opened. Your registration or warranty system must validate the submission and remain the source of truth for coverage.
